Google Business Profile audit: check the facts before chasing visibility
By Rainey Howell · Updated October 23, 2026
Start with the right business, not a score
A useful Google Business Profile audit begins with identity. Confirm that you are looking at the correct business and location. Record the profile URL, observation date and the website it links to. A similarly named business or old duplicate can make an apparently simple check misleading.
Compare the details customers rely on
Put your website contact page and public listing side by side. Compare the trading name, address where applicable, phone number, regular and special hours, appointment or order link, and service description. A mismatch is a factual question to resolve with the owner; do not assume whichever source ranks first is correct.
Test the next step on a phone
Open the website, booking and ordering links. Can a customer reach the intended page without an error, confusing redirect or unrelated destination? Record the exact URL and outcome. A working link today does not establish long-term availability, so date the observation.
Separate public observations from private performance
You can record visible categories, services, photos, review counts and business replies. You cannot infer calls, direction requests, clicks or revenue from those public details. Those metrics need authorized account data and a stated period. Never request a customer’s password to do a public assessment.
Handle duplicates and eligibility carefully
A similar listing may represent a separate location, department or practitioner. Verify ownership and applicable Google rules before requesting edits or removal. FIX/LIST is an online digital service; it can teach eligible client businesses about listing consistency without presenting itself as a storefront.
Turn the findings into a small fix list
For a demonstration, imagine a florist whose website closes at 4 p.m. Saturday while its listing says 6 p.m. This is an illustrative example, not a measured client result. The first action is to confirm the actual hours and align the sources. It is not evidence that changing hours will improve rankings.
What to save for a reviewer
Save the source URLs, date, exact mismatch, why it could confuse a customer, the confirmed correct information and who can authorize the change. Prioritize broken buying paths and inaccurate facts before cosmetic additions. FIX/LIST combines these observations with broader website and discovery context in one human-reviewed assessment.
